Welcome to 2011! This should be a better year for businesses, especially Ohio businesses.
With the change in parties in the House in Washington and the guard changes in Columbus, 2011 promises to be an interesting year for business. Almost immediately, the House (Federal) is trying to get enough votes to repeal the Health Care Act. While it is a moot point (because the Democrats control the Senate and Obama would surely veto the repeal), it is very possible that there may be some compromise and concessions. We should know very soon.
Governor Kasich has wasted no time making his mark. He said he is a pro-business leader and every appointment and talk has shown this to be true. He recently appointed Senator Steve Buehrer the new Administrator to Workers Compensation. Steve has been favorable to business in the Senate and will definitely help to improve the system.
House Bill 1, which is Kasich’s brainchild, is designed to create the “JobsOhio” program. This bill will be one step to privatizing the Department of Development. Kasich has appointed Mark Kvamme, a venture capitalist from Silicon Valley to be the Interim Director of Development. Mark will be responsible for assessing the business needs, the department and help with the transition to a private board of directors to oversee the Department of Development. Kasich and Taylor’s inauguration was on Monday and the governor had already scheduled a trip to Detroit this week to meet with the automakers to entice them to relook at opportunities in Ohio.
Not much happened last quarter, as it was a lame duck session. It does appear to be an exciting 2011 and hopefully a real profitable year for the staffing industry!
